More than £200 was raised at a quiz night towards the cost of holding next year’s Burnham-On-Sea fireworks display – and organisers are appealing for more support of future fundraising events.
The quiz night at the Oaktree last Friday raised a total of £207 and while organiser Jordan Jones said the evening was enjoyed, he believes the amount was “slightly disappointing.”
“For the amount of people that supported the event I think this is a good figure, however I feel the support the event received was very disappointing,” he told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“The whole idea of the ‘Burnham & Highbridge Firework Fund 2014’ is to safeguard the fireworks for next year. We are currently living in a world of council cuts and we at The Oaktree feel it would be a huge loss to the area if there was to be no fireworks in 2014 because of funding issues.”
He added: “We are willing to organise and run various events over the course of the year to try and raise enough money secure the fireworks but without the support of the people who enjoy watching the fireworks every year we face an impossible task.”
“We are planning an event in December and really need the support from local people to make it a success and help guarantee our annual firework display happens in 2014.”
Details of December’s event will be announced here on Burnham-On-Sea.com.
