A Burnham-On-Sea family started the New Year with a shock, when a stray firework caused a blaze at their home just twelve minutes into 2008.
Two fire engines from Burnham were sent to Wilde Close on Tuesday morning (January 1st) when the fire broke out within the cavity wall of a house.
“A firework hit a plastic air brick and went into the cavity of the wall,” fire spokesman Paul Slavin explained to Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“The fire was extinguished by the occupier with a garden hose and the fire service assisted in removing some house bricks to gain better access and cool the area down.”
He added that a plastic air brick had been destroyed and there was 10 per cent damage to the cavity within the wall.
