Bales of paper and a railway wagon destroyed in Highbridge blaze

-

Burnham-On-Sea fire crews were sent to tackle a fire in Highbridge on Monday afternoon (June 26th).

Three appliances were called to the incident in Commerce Way, Highbridge, including one from Burnham-On-Sea and two from Bridgwater.

Crews arrived at the scene just after 2.30pm and found there was a fire against the building and got to work extinguishing the blaze.

At 3.53pm crews confirmed they were working to extinguish the fire using hose reel jets and ladders and that firefighters were damping down the fire checking for heat and fire spread.

At 4.26pm firefighters said the fire involved 10-15 bales of paper and a railway wagon measuring three metres by five metres.

A spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Crews confirmed that the rail wagon and bales of paper had been completely destroyed by fire and that the outside building had sustained damage caused by heat and smoke.”
