A man was taken to hospital following a fire in Highbridge on Saturday morning (March 8th) that brought the town to a standstill.
Fire crews from Burnham-On-Sea, Street and Bridgwater tackled the blaze in a ground floor flat in Huntspill Road at 11.30am, as pictured here.
Burnham fire officer Ian Hazelton told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “On arrival, the crews confirmed that smoke was issuing from a ground floor flat. The fire was extinguished using one hose reel jet and two breathing apparatus.”
He added that although the fire had been confined to the hallway of the property, the home had suffered “extensive heat and smoke damage.”
The cause was still under investigation – and police scene-of-crime officers were examining the property on Saturday evening. A man was conveyed to Taunton’s Musgrove Park Hospital, but is not thought to have been seriously injured.
The A38 through Highbridge was partially closed while emergency services attended the incident, leading to major hold-ups for motorists.
