A Burnham-On-Sea firefighter has retired this week after 32 years service, following in the footsteps of four generations of his family.
Fellow crewmembers and past colleagues marked the retirement of Mike Wynn with a special presentation outside the fire station in Marine Drive, as pictured here.
Mike, 55, joined the service in 1981 and has tackled thousands of fires across the Burnham and Highbridge area over more than three decades.
His family has had a long involvement with firefighting in the area – his father, great uncle, great grandfather and his two brothers have all served in the role.
And Mike’s retirement won’t end the family links with the service because his son-in-law, Darren, has joined the team at the Burnham station.
Station officer Ian Hazelton told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Mike has always been a very valued and experienced firefighter who the others look up to. He’s a character that will definitely be difficult to replace.”
“His family has had a long involvement in firefighting here in Burnham and we are grateful for all their work over the years.”
Mike said: “I will miss the camaraderie of the team – you do grow close to it all after more than 30 years together.”
