Burnham-On-Sea fire crews tackle blazes in Brent Knoll and Bridgwater

-

Burnham-On-Sea fire crews were called out twice to tackle incidents in Brent Knoll and Bridgwater on Thursday (February 2nd).

Crews from Burnham-On-Sea, Cheddar and Bridgwater were initially called to Ham Road in Brent Knoll just before 10.30am following reports of a fire and smoke alarm activating at a property.

A main electrical fuse supply had blown and was smouldering. Crews stood by to await the arrival of Western Power Distribution to make the house safe again.

Firefighters were then called to a separate incident following an explosion at a substation in Lower Bath Road, Bridgwater at 12.24pm alongside fire crews from Bridgwater and Taunton.

Crews got to work with breathing apparatus, one compressed air foam system, covering and environment jets, a ladder, a thermal image camera, hydraulic cutting equipment and small tools to suppress the fire and an oil leak.

“The incident involved a 11kv transformer within a building. The fire caused 100% damage to the transformer and 40% damage to the building measuring 5m by 5m,” said a spokesman.
