Burnham-On-Sea crews tackle fierce blaze in Brent Knoll

-

These were the scenes in Brent Knoll last night (Wednesday, October 14th) as fire crews from Burnham-On-Sea tackled a blaze that was visible for miles around.

Firefighters rushed to Brent Road soon after 6.30pm where a large outbuilding was well alight, as pictured here.

Plumes of thick black smoke were visible across the area, and there were initially fears that someone could be inside.

Passer-by Joe Hurley told Burnham-On-Sea.com how he’d raised the alarm and helped the occupant of a nearby house.

“I was driving past and saw the smoke, so stopped to check if anyone was trapped,” he said. “I knocked on the door to see if anyone was stuck and when I didn’t get an answer, I smashed the lock to get in and ensure no-one was inside.”

“Within a few seconds, it was engulfed in flames. I helped a lady and her dog out of a house next door in case the fire spread.”

“The flames really flared up quickly, but the fire crew got there incredibly fast and they managed to get it under control.”

Police closed Brent Road, which runs between Berrow and Brent Knoll, while firefighters dealt with the incident.

Crews used breathing apparatus and hose reel jets to bring the blaze under control.

A fire spokesman said: “The incident is still under investigation and it’s too early to say what caused it.”
