The quick action of Burnham-On-Sea firefighters has been praised after a blaze at Brean Leisure Park last night (Saturday).
A food van parked next to the Brean Play building caught fire, as pictured here, with concerns that it could spread to the next door building.
Flames and smoke billowed out of the vehicle as two fire crews from Burnham-On-Sea and Bridgwater tackled the incident just after 9.20pm.
Crews used water jets to bring the blaze under control, avoiding the fire spreading to the multi-million pound Brean Play and Brean Splash buildings.
Brean Leisure Park director Alan House told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’re very grateful to the fire crews for their quick work – it could have quickly spread and been more serious.”
“Fortunately, the fire was contained, and was put out by the crews without it spreading.”
A fire spokesman added: “our crews confirmed the van was well alight on arrival, and located several LPG cylinders but confirmed they were not involved.”
“We set to work extinguishing the fire with two breathing apparatus, a hose reel jet and a covering jet. Once extinguished, the cause of the fire was confirmed as accidental, due to an electrical fault in some freezers.”
The fire crews dampened down the vehicle, as pictured here, which was catering for some of the thousands of people currently in the village for the annual Brean Country and Western Festival.
Fire crews confirmed to Burnham-On-Sea.com that no-one had been hurt or injured in the incident.
The Brean Play building sited next to the vehicle was not affected, thanks to the quick actions of the fire crews from Burnham-On-Sea and Bridgwater.
