Hinkley Point power station ‘smoke’ sighting was a false alarm

Fire services were alerted on Saturday morning after residents in Burnham reported seeing plumes of ‘smoke’ over Hinkley Point power station – as pictured above.

The tall pillar of ‘white smoke’ was visible for miles around Bridgwater Bay and appeared to be coming from the eastern end of the power station site.

On further investigation, it was found to be nothing more than harmless steam emerging from one of the station’s cooling towers.
