Finnish choir set to perform in Burnham-On-Sea this Friday

-

A Finnish choir is set to perform a unique line-up of music in Burnham-On-Sea this Friday (June 9th).

The Uusi Ääni mixed choir was founded in 2008 by members of the Oulunsalo parish in Oulu, North Finland, with the aim of ‘bringing joy and uniting people through music’.

Its Burnham-On-Sea concert will be held in St Andrew’s Church on Friday June 9th at 6pm with a mixed repertoire of gospel, classical pieces, contemporary music and psalms.

Choir member Katja Kiviniemi-Collins said the choir’s name, Uusi Ääni, is Finnish for “new voice”.

She told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This concert consists of spiritual songs about faith and hope from all over the world, such as Amazing Grace, May the Road Rise to Meet You and Go Tell It On The Mountain. We also sing traditional Finnish songs of famous Finnish composers because Finland celebrates its 100 years of independence this year. We sing both in English and in Finnish.”

The concerts are free and all are warmly welcome! The group will also give a second concert in St Cuthbert’s Church, Wells on Sunday June 11th at 11.30am.

During spring 2015 the choir recorded its first album, Balsamia, which is on sale at the concerts for £10.

The album consists of songs both in Finnish and English that have become important to the choir along the way.
