Tea and cake event in Burnham today will raise funds for support group
Teas, cake and scones will be served up in support of a Somerset charity in Burnham-On-Sea today (Saturday).
Fibromyalgia Heart of Somerset Support Group is holding a tea and cake event at the Baptist Church Hall in College Street from 2pm-4.30pm.
Sam Everiss, from the group, says: “We will also be welcoming Annie Vickerstaff as she completes a 12 mile sponsored walk for the group. She is leaving Burnham at 10am and hopes to have finished by around 2pm, so she will be ready for something to eat!”
The group meets every Monday (except Bank Holidays) at Somerset Skills and Learning in Burnham’s Princess Street from 1.30pm to 3.30pm and provides support for anyone who has Fibromyalgia or ME, and their families.
“We are a friendly bunch,” says Sam, “so just pop along. It can be a very lonely and difficult situation for Fibromyalgia sufferers as it varies so much from day to day.”
“One day you are feeling well enough to go shopping, for example, and the next you are exhausted, in pain and can’t move. Families and friends can find it difficult to grasp just how hard it is for someone with this diagnosis, so the group provides information and support to help promote a wider understanding of the illness.
