Highbridge’s 65th annual Festival Of The Arts opened in Burnham-On-Sea on Wednesday morning (February 29th).

Hundreds of talented youngsters from the ages of three upwards are competing for top awards over the course of the week-long festival at The Princess Theatre and Arts Centre.

Dance is being featured in the first competition classes, with dozens of entries covering ballet, tap, modern, contemporary, cabaret and Greek to follow.

Speech and Drama will also take centre stage with poetry, prose, choral and speech being performed on stage before singing and instrumental music take over for the final part of the festival.

Maureen Phillips, the festival’s General Secretary, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It promises to be another superb festival. This year is very special because it will be our big 65th anniversary year.”

Members of the public are welcome to attend the daily sessions, which start at 9.30am and approximately 2pm. The festival runs until March 9th.
