Highbridge teenager praised for her work with town’s Youth Club

-

A teenager from Highbridge has this week been presented with a top police award for her work with Highbridge Youth Club.

Faye Leatherby, an A-Level student from Highbridge, has been recognised for her work with the club at the third annual Children and Young People’s Awards, which are held by Avon and Somerset Police to celebrate the achievements of young people.

Faye received her award from Deputy Chief Constable Rob Beckley on Thursday (October 21st) during a ceremony held at police HQ in Portishead.

Faye, 17, started her work with the club in 2009 and has become one of its key leaders, giving up every Friday evening to supervise, participate and engage with the young people who attend.

“During her involvement, she has initiated numerous activities that have continued to inspire and motivate those who attend,” a spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“She has entered the group into the local carnival next year, preparing opportunities for the young people to present ideas and work on the theme, choreographed a dance routine and made costumes for them to wear.”

“She has also taken sole responsibility for the project, inspiring the club members and volunteers to unexpected levels of excitement and focus.”

“Faye has also taken on roles within the management committee and has provided support to others in their new roles despite the demands of her own work.”

“She’s instrumental in maintaining the running of the club yet also takes on the unpopular tasks. She sets an example to the others and is a popular and dedicated member of the team,” added the spokesman.
