A father and daughter duo have won Brean Golf Club’s prestigious annual Presidents Trophy.
Steve Jones and his daughter Millie successfully teamed up to take part in the tournament, which was held in Brean over the weekend.
The 37 pairs who took part enjoyed an excellent day’s golf in great weather.
“Steve Jones suffered a frustrating Winter after twice breaking his foot but didn’t take long to find his way back into the winners enclosure with the help of his daughter Millie.”
“The duo teamed up to score a whooping 48 points and win the prestigious Presidents Trophy played for in memory of Bert and Marie House.”
“For Steve it was his second win in the event after tasting victory back in 2014 and the pair continued the amazing run of success enjoyed by the Jones family in the event as his brother Paul and Uncle Eric also have wins to their names.”
“It was Millie who did the bulk of the damage on the day with a rare sight of a 5 pointer being recorded at the 5th hole by the up and coming youngster. They ended the day 3 clear of Simon Baunton and his guest Dave Bidgood who compiled a total of 45 points between them.”
“This would have more often than not been good enough to take top spot but they had to settle for second spot in the end. They were one point clear of third place finishers Barry Fellows and Brian Read who were in turn another points ahead of Gordy Wheelaghan and Neil Barker who took 4th.”
“A countback was required to separate three pairs who posted 41 point returns with father and son duo of Steve and Alec Bateman getting the verdict with a superior back nine.”
Club President Richard House handed over the awards for the first time in the Kestrel Suite of the brand new Country Club.
