Tributes paid to Highbridge man who died in rhyne car crash in Mark

-

Tributes have been paid to a 27 year-old Highbridge man who died at the weekend in a crash in the village of Mark.

Police say Rob Goodwin died when the Renault Clio car he was travelling in left The Causeway and ended up on its roof in a rhyne at around 2am on Saturday (May 30th).

Scores of tributes have been paid to the popular Highbridge man with bouquets of flowers and messages being laid next to the rhyne, pictured right.

“Our hearts and world will be empty without you,” says one.

Friends and colleagues have also been posting scores of messages on social media in his memory.

It comes as police have appealed for any witnesses to come forward following the accident during the early hours of Saturday.

Police initially received a call from South West Ambulance Service at 5.19am reporting that the car was submerged in the rhyne near the White Horse Inn in Mark.

A second man – also aged 27 – was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He was later released on bail until July while police enquiries into the circumstances of the collision continue.

“The body of a man was found inside the vehicle,” police spokesman Craig Evry confirmed to Burnham-On-Sea.com. “We’re carrying out enquiries to establish the circumstances of this collision.”

“If anyone saw the collision, or has any information which could help this inquiry, please call us via the 24-hour Police Enquiry Centre on 101 and quote log number 226 of 30 May.”

The Causeway was shut to allow the investigation into the collision to begin. The car was removed from the Mark Yeo mid-afternoon, allowing the road to re-open.
