Man arrested after pensioner is killed in A370 road crash near Burnham

Police have arrested a man and appealed for witnesses following a fatal accident between Weston and Burnham-On-Sea yesterday evening (Sunday, July 31st).

A woman in her 80s, who was out walking her dog, was involved in a collision with a black Landrover Freelander.

She was treated at the scene by paramedics but tragically died of her injuries.

The incident happened at about 5.35pm on the A370 Bridgwater Road just before the junction with Bleadon Hill.

Police say a man aged in his 40s has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Specialist collision investigators were on site and the road was closed for several gours while they examined it.

The air ambulance was also called to help the lady, landing nearby, but its crew were sadly unable to save her life.

Anyone who was in the area at the time of the collision, or who has any information that could help Police with their enquiries, should call 101, quoting log 878 of 31/07/16.
