A man found dead at the scene of a serious road accident on the A38 near Burnham-On-Sea on Thursday evening (April 24th) has been named.
Emergency services were called to the accident at Brent Knoll, outside the Brent House public house, just before 5pm after a car left the road and ended up in a ditch.
On Friday, the dead man was named as Douglas Rhodes, 87, from Wedmore.
He was pronounced dead at the scene and West Somerset Coroner said he had died from natural causes.
A woman who was also in the car at the time was extracted from the vehicle by fire crews and placed onto a spinal board before being taken to hospital.
Fire crews said the vehicle had ended up in a bramble-filled ditch that was partially filled with water. Crews used lines and salvage sheets to assist with the rescue.
The accident closed the A38 at Edithmead and led to long delays around junction 22 of the M5 motorway at Burnham-On-Sea.
