Families in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge are being invited to pick up a free lantern making kit and then join in Christmas lantern parades in the two towns this month.
As part of the Christmas Lights Switch-On events in Burnham-On-Sea on Saturday November 20th and Highbridge on Saturday November 27th, the lantern parades are being organised by regional arts group Seed.
A Seed spokesman says: “Following on from the success of last year’s lantern making project, we have just launched a new project called Glow Lanterns.”
“You can make your very own eco-friendly paper bag lantern to carry in the lantern parade at the Christmas Lights Switch On events in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge.”
“Each lantern pack comes with everything you will need to make the lantern and an LED tealight, even safe for little hands.”
“Free lanterns activity packs are now available to collect from Create You on Market Street in Highbridge and several local shops in Burnham-On-Sea: Material Needs; Crafty Comforts; Baby Bee Crafty; Toy Cupboard; Indoor market; GW Hurley; Sassy.”
“As well as supplying the paper bag lantern packs, Create You are running several free drop-in workshops to make floating lanterns leading up to the events. The walk-in lantern sessions are taking place in the shop on Sunday 14th November 1.30-3.30pm; Thursday 18th November 10-12pm; and Sunday 21st November 1.30-3.30 pm. There is no need to book, just turn up on the day!”
The lantern parades will take place on Saturday 20th November in Burnham-On-Sea, meeting at the Victoria Hotel in Victoria Street at 5.45pm, and Saturday 27th November in Highbridge, meeting at 4pm at Highbridge Community Hall. You just need to bring along a lantern to take part.
There are many other activities taking place throughout the day in Burnham-On-Sea on Saturday, as featured here, with Victoria Stage seeing a community stage showcasing festive entertainment from 12.30pm plus craft stalls and fun fair rides. There will also be fun fair rides and stalls in the High Street plus a seperate evening stage starting at 6.30pm in Lynton Road car park.
