A group of children from St Andrew’s School in Burnham-On-Sea held a successful coffee morning on Wednesday (March 21st) to highlight the issues of Fairtrade.
The event, held at St Andrew’s Church, turned the spotlight on the differences between the First World in which we live and the Third World, whose farmers produce many of our food products.
One child from each class was picked to organise an event and, along with Fairtrade Coffee being available, there were a number of other activities.
These included a display of the children’s artwork, a quiz on Fairtrade, and a game asking players to match many common foods with their country of origin.
Two bars of Fairtrade chocolate were available for the winners of the quiz.
Reverend Graham Witts was on hand to help the children and he told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I was thrilled to see the support given to the children by parents and churchmembers and for all the hard work that went into making tea and coffee for the 50 people who supported the event.”
“The children are great ambassadors for their school and I hope that this will become an annual event in the life of the school and its involvement in Burnham life.”
Funds raised from the event will go towards the work of a Traidcraft project in India.
