Highbridge factory evacuated after machinery fire

-

Fire crews were called to extinguish a small blaze at a Highbridge factory on Thursday evening (July 28th).

Crews from Bridgwater and Burnham-On-Sea rushed to David Salisbury Joinery in Bennett Road on the Isleport Industrial Estate at 9.22pm, as pictured here.

The property was evacuated after getting smoke logged when a fire started in a wood pulp machine.

A fire spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This was a fire in machinery and wood pulp, caused by mechanical heat setting fire to the wood pulp and shavings.”

“The fire was extinguished using one hose reel jet and a 9kg foam extinguisher by staff.”

He added that the blaze had caused 50 per cent fire damage to wood pulp and five per cent smoke damage to the property.
