Navy bomb disposal team called to metal object found on Brean beach

Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards and Police cordoned off an area of Brean beach at the weekend after a metal detector user uncovered a ‘suspicious object’.

Brean beachwarden Dave Furber contacted Coastguards, who were unable to positively confirm what the metal object was.

So a Royal Navy bomb disposal team was called to investigate amid concerns that the object may have been wartime ordnance.

“The team later confirmed that the object was harmless and was probably a discarded car item,” said a Coastguard spokesman. “We always prefer to fully check out items like these rather than put public safety at risk.”
