A major new project to revitalise Burnham-On-Sea seafront and other parts of the town centre aims to “restore a sense of civic pride in the community.”
As first reported here by Burnham-On-Sea.com last week, Sedgemoor District Council and Burnham and Highbridge Town Council have teamed up to work on a new project called “Burnham Evolution” to make the town more attractive for visitors and residents.
The project is being led by the Town Council with support from Sedgemoor District Council, the local business community and Litter Free Somerset.
Tatiana Cant, Town Clerk, told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week: “The aim is to revitalise the town by providing enhancements to the Esplanade to make the seafront more attractive and welcoming for residents and visitors.”
“The project will also include the renovation of the Princess Theatre which is a heavily used community space but needs to be modernised and freshened up to make it a more appealing facility.”
“Burnham residents will benefit from an increase in the number of people who spend time and money in the town as there will be more to see and do. We also hope that these improvements will restore a sense of civic pride in the community.”
“The Town Council has engaged a consultant to prepare a business plan in order to apply for grants from the Coastal Community and Hinkley funds. This will be a significant investment to enhance the town and make it a better place to live, work and visit.”
She added: “Burnham Evolution will consist of a number of mini-projects in different areas of the town and we will be asking residents to tell us their views on these ideas.”
“A public consultation will be taking place this weekend so that people can comment on these proposals.”
