Highbridge school’s new equestrian team trots into first competition

-

Pupils at Highbridge’s King Alfred School who have formed a new equestrian team have this week been competing in their first competition.

Ross Dixon, 13, and Emily Lowe, 12, travelled to Millfield Prep School to take part in an inter-schools ‘jumping and style’ competition.

They entered a pre-competition warm-up round and both achieved a clear round and received rosettes.

Ross on his pony Dee and Emily on her pony called Mr Bertie Bassett went on to jump clear rounds in the 70cm class over a course of show jumps followed by a timed section over cross-country style jumps.

They were also marked on the way they rode, and received positive comments from the judge.

“The day was enjoyed by everyone, and all agreed that it was a great first outing for the team, ” a school spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

They are now planning for their next competition, to be held in Gloucestershire, at the end of March.

It is hoped that more members of the team, who are trained by BSJA Accredited Coach Erica Oldham at Alstone Court Riding Establishment in Highbridge, will be able to take part.
