Energy drinks ban introduced at Highbridge’s King Alfred School

-

Pupils at Highbridge’s King Alfred School can no longer consume energy drinks on the school premises following the introduction of a ban.

The school has contacted parents to say that having reviewed the latest research into the links between energy drinks and health issues, it will be confiscating and disposing of any energy drinks students found on the site.

Denise Hurr, headteacher at The King Alfred School, explained: “Energy drinks have been linked to negative impacts on well-being and educational outcomes.”

“Many such drinks contain far more than the recommended daily intake of sugar and caffeine, affecting concentration and mood.”

“Parents and staff have been supportive of the change, with many parents suggesting that they are surprised such guidance hasn’t been introduced county-wide.”
