Somerset Rebels to roar into action in memory of Emil Kramer

Highbridge-based Somerset Rebels will remember one of their favourite sons, Emil Kramer, who was tragically killed in a road accident in December 2009, when they stage the inaugural Emil Kramer Memorial Meeting this Friday (April 15th).

Somewhat fittingly as the Rebels seek to honour one of their all time greats, the club current sit proudly top of the Premier League having won all four of their league matches so far this season, two of which have been on their travels, at local rivals Newport and title favourites Ipswich respectively.

“I would like to think that Emil is looking down on us with some degree of satisfaction given the way the team have started the season,” Rebels promoter Debbie Hancock told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“He was the consummate team man and we have seven riders here that really want to work for the good of the team and that has showed in our results to date.”

“We have assembled a field that we think is worthy of Emil’s name and have tried to combine rider who had a connection with Emil together with some top Elite League riders and some of the current Somerset septet,” explained Hancock.

“It promises to be a great night of racing and I sincerely hope that the fans turn up in good numbers as we seek to remember one of Somerset’s all-time great riders.”

The draw was made for the riding order following Somerset’s home win over Ipswich last Friday as follows: 1) Ty Proctor, 2) Cameron Woodward, 3) Emiliano Sanchez, 4) Sam Masters, 5) Ricky Wells, 6) Christian Hefenbrock, 7) Dakota North, 8) Davey Watt, 9) Shane Parker, 10) Kevin Doolan, 11) Cory Gathercole, 12) Joonas Klymakorpi, 13) Justin Sedgmen, 14) Travis McGowan, 15) Bjarne Pedersen, 16) Darcy Ward.

Fans are asked to note that with the need to complete 22 heats prior to our 10pm curfew time the rider parade will take place at 7.20pm with tapes up on heat 1 at 7.30pm and that, additionally, admission prices for this meeting will be increased by £1 across all categories on the standard and that season tickets will not be valid for this meeting.

Prior to that, the Rebels have the matter of an away trip to Sheffield on Thursday evening to contend with.
