Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards were called out on Sunday afternoon (December 10th) to conduct a search for a possible missing person at Brean.
Crews were called out just before 3.30pm after abandoned clothing and personal items were discovered.
“We were requested by the Police as a member of public had found some clothing, a mobile phone and a wallet,” said a Coastguard spokesman.
“With the weather taking a cold turn and the snow falling it was possible that the person could be vulnerable, or attempting to enter the water.”
“When we arrived on the scene, closer investigation revealed an identity from the wallet while a small local search of the immediate area was carried out.”
“While this was happening a very embarrassed person approached the team and made it known that the items were his.”
“After a Christmas celebration the night before he had got a bit worse for wear and somehow lost his clothes, phone and wallet and had turned up at home in just his boxer shorts.”
“Thankfully he was OK and we all turned up to the items around the same time saving us carrying out a prolonged search.”
“Please be careful if are out and about for the festive period, all that extra alcohol and the cold weather is not a good mix.”
“And if you do find yourself in difficulty along the coast, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguards.”
Lucky for this person it was nothing more than a red face and a story of how he lost his clothes.”
BARB Search & Rescue’s volunteers were also called out after Coastguards got to the scene and were stood down just before the team was leaving station.
