Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge get ready for local elections

The timetable for budding politicians in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge to get elected onto the town and district councils has been announced this week.

Several key dates have been announced in the run-up to May’s polling day.

Sedgemoor’s Election Services Department says a formal ‘Notice of Election’ will be published on March 12th, which will signal the start of a three-week period where local residents can put their name forward for positions on the district and town councils. The cut-off date for delivering applications will be 12 noon prompt on April 4th.

The list of all those vying for the council seats will then be announced on April 10th.

And polling day will take place on May 3rd, when registered voters will get a chance to cast their votes at polling stations in the town – such as Burnham’s Methodist Church pictured above.

County Council seats will not be contested this year. Its next elections are due in May 2009.
