Residents across the Burnham-On-Sea area will be going to the polls today (Thursday, May 2nd) as County Council elections take place.
Polling stations are open from 7am-10pm across the area.
Somerset County Council has urged voters to take part. Election Monitoring Officer Julian Gale told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I can’t stress how important it is that everyone who can vote, does so.”
“Somerset County Council delivers important services across the Burnham area, including looking after roads, caring for the elderly, caring for vulnerable children and adults, supporting schools and maintaining street lights.”
“The election provides voters with an opportunity to have their say on how those services are delivered by picking candidates to become elected County Councillors, who hold the purse strings of an annual budget of £748m.”
The candidates in Burnham North are Peter Burridge-Clayton (Con), Leander Clarke (Lab), Tom Nichols (Lib Dem) and James Robertson (Green).
In Highbridge and Burnham South, those running are Helen Groves (Lib Dem), Ricky Holcombe (Lab), David Taylor (Green), Purple Watkins (Ind) and John Woodman (Con).
In the Brent division, the candidates are John Denbee (Con), Sheila Forrester (Lab) and Katie Lawson (Lib Dem).
And in Huntspill, Alexia Bartlett (Lab), John Everitt (UKIP), Mark Healy (Con) and Alan Miller (Lib Dem) will contest the seat.
The results will appear on Burnham-On-Sea.com when they are announced early on Friday morning.
