Controversial proposals to build ten new eco-friendly homes in East Huntspill, near Burnham-On-Sea, have been given the go-ahead by the district council this week.
South Western Housing Society’s application to build ten houses and two flats on land to the west of Hackness Farm in Church Road has been approved by Sedgemoor District Council’s planning department.
Each of the homes will have solar panels on their south-facing roofs, providing heating, hot water and renewable electricity.
The plans – which include landscaping, 26 parking spaces and access – had drawn four objections from local residents.
Local residents raised concerns about the drainage system in East Huntspill being “inadequate” and “overloaded” and needing to be updated before further development, while others expressed concern about potential flooding and traffic safety issues.
