More than 140 people crowded into Burnham-On-Sea’s Princess Theatre on Thursday night for the first screening of a unique film about community life in Burnham.
The Theatre Mélange production company’s film, “Echo Burnham, Portrait of a Coastal Town”, was accompanied by a theatrical performance on the stage by Imogen Smith, pictured.
The group has spent the summer filming different aspects of Burnham’s community life for the film and the groups featured included Burnham Town Band, the Friends of Marine Cove, Sailing Club, Burnham BMX Club plus BARB and the RNLI. There were also memories of Burnham’s Portishead Radio Station, which shut thirteen years ago and was bulldozed in 2007 as featured here.
Artistic Director Sandy Maberley told Burnham-On-Sea.com after Thursday’s first show: “We had positive feedback and while some of those in audience say they would have liked a few more interviews and stories, others told us that they liked the range and mix of groups featured.”
Burnham is the third seaside town for the team, who have previously produced films on Minehead and Watchet.
The film is being screened at The Princess Theatre for three nights only from Thursday 26th to Saturday 28th September at 7.45pm each night.
“There are a few tickets left but they are selling fast with just a few remaining,” added Sandy.
Drawing on filmed interviews with Burnham residents collected over the past six months, the team have created a colourful, voyage through Burnham’s past, present and future.
Sandy added: “It features a rich mix of real-life stories interwoven with stunning landscapes, live performance, a compelling sound track and words from Burnham’s own ‘poet laureate’ Lewis Charles Coleman.”
Tickets for the screenings are priced at £10.00 for adults, £8.50 for concessions, £5.00 for Under 16s and £25.00 for families of two Adults + two Under-16s. Details from The Princess Box Office on 01278 784464.
