Nessa’s head shave raises over £1,900 for eating disorders charity
A Burnham-On-Sea fundraiser has raised more than £1,900 for an eating disorder charity.
Nessa Holbrow has suffered with an eating disorder for over 30 years and has held the head shave to raise awareness and funds for Beat, a charity which helps those affected by eating disorders or difficulties with food, weight or shape.
She told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I’ve turned to Beat on and off over the years, especially in the early days when they were known as the Eating Disorders Association.”
“I am passionate about mental illnesses in general, especially helping to break the stigma associated with it.”
“I would like to feel as though some good has come out of a scary and unpleasant journey, and doing something positive to help in some small way would, in turn, help me too.”
“I would give my life to prevent one young person going down a similar journey as mine – an existence dominated by fear of food, nutrition and weight is a living hell.”
She thanked all those who have supported her fundraiser to support the charity.
“To my surprise I was very excited on the day, and that was helped by having Jack, my Border Terrier with me, and the support of all the girls and especially my hairdresser Lorna Hucker at Unwind Hair & Beauty in Berrow. I think Lorna was more nervous than I was!”
She added: “I quite like the fact I don’t need to even think about what my hair looks like, so I’m quite liking the new look.”
