More heavy rain due for Burnham-On-Sea area as Easter trade is hit

Poor weather has given the Burnham-On-Sea area a disappointing Easter weekend with events cancelled and some holidaymakers being turned away due to flooding, as a warning for more heavy rain is issued for later today (Sunday).

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for more hevay rain in the Burnham-On-Sea area from 5pm today (Sunday) until 5pm on Bank Holiday Monday, saying it will cause difficult driving conditions and travel delays.

It comes after poor weather hit the holiday trade of shops in Burnham-On-Sea town centre, with some reporting their ‘worst-ever’ Good Friday and a poor Saturday.

Several holiday parks at Brean have had to turn away some holidaymakers due to flooded grass areas, among them was Warren Farm. Brean Golf Course was also closed on Saturday due to flooded greens.

In West Huntspill, the Somerst and Dorset Memorial Railway group has cancelled its traditional easter egg hunt today due to the flooding of fields, as outlined in its poster pictured here.

Secret World in East Huntspill also cancelled its Easter fun day, which was planned for Saturday, due to flooded parking areas.

Meawhile, in Highbridge, Apex Park lakes’ high water levels led to the flooding of several paths.

The Met office says that heavy rain and strong winds will seep through the area this evening and during Monday, but temperatures will reach 8°C today and 13°C on Monday, making the threat of wintry weather unlikely.
