Burnham-On-Sea has been given a financial boost with a busy start to the tourist season, helped by good weather over the Easter holidays.
Many accommodation providers and attractions reported a busy period, with large numbers of visitors heading to the Burnham-On-Sea area.
Ian Jefferies, Burnham’s Tourism Manager Ian Jefferies at the seafront tourist information centre, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It has been a good start to the season for many tourism businesses.”
“Many are telling us that their trade in the first quarter is up on last year. The town seems to have been generally busy too – the bright weather has no doubt helped.”
Shops in Burnham-On-Sea town centre saw mixed trade over the Easter holidays. The town centre was busy on several days, as pictured here, but some traders said business had not been as brisk as some previous Easters.
Shaun Coggins at Sentiments in the High Street told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Our trade was about the same this Easter as last year – it’s been steady.”
Phil Hemming at Home Hardware in the High Street added: “Our trade is down on last year, but the last couple of months have not been too bad.”
Many shops also said they saw an increase in families visiting the town centre over the Easter holiday to take part in Burnham Chamber of Trade’s popular Easter shop windows competition, which is aimed at boosting footfall.
Several pubs and fish and chip shops in the town also reported busy trade over the peak holiday period thanks to the influx of visitors.
