Almost 100 local people clambered up the steep slopes of Brent Knoll on Sunday (April 17th) to take part in the traditional blessing of three Easter crosses.
Churches from across the Burnham-On-Sea area were represented at the 25-minute Palm Sunday service, which was led by Reverend Andrew Jackson from Highbridge’s Hope Baptist Church.
The hill-top service has been held each Easter for more than 15 years and a group of villagers from Burnham spent several hours on Saturday moving the symbolic wooden crosses into position on the summit of the Knoll.
The crosses are now clearly visible to motorists travelling along the A38 and M5 on the eastern side of the Knoll and will be in place for two weeks, until the weekend after Easter.
Rev Jackson told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We had a good turnout of people for this short service, which brings together worshippers from all the denominations across the Burnham area.”
During the service, which was organised by ‘Churches Together in Burnham and Highbridge’, the congregation sang several hymns including, aptly, ‘There is a green hill far away’ and took part in prayers.
