A new £80,000 multi-use games area was officially opened in East Huntspill on Saturday (March 23rd).
The brand new MUGA (Multi Use Games Area) has been built on the playing field and a ceremony was held on Saturday attended by local villagers, councillors and dignitaries.
Cllr Gill Slocombe, Chairman of Sedgemoor District Council, led the ribbon-cutting at the new facilities on Saturday alongside East Huntspill Parish Council Chairman Valerie Shellard and Burnham Olympic torchbearers Tony Deahl and Jason Vickers.
East Huntspill Parish Council secured £80,000 funding for the new facilities through Sedgemoor District Council’s community contributions from local property developers.
Alongside traditional sports such as netball, basketball and football, the new facilities offer unique activities such as ‘street snooker’, pictured right.
The area around the MUGA has also been landscaped with new equipment and paths.
East Huntspill Parish Council Chairman Valerie Shellard told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This is a great day for East Huntspill – we said eight years ago that we wanted new facilities like this. I am so delighted for the village that we have got the new facility in place and opened.”
