Police have carried out seven drugs busts in the last ten days in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge, it was revealed on Monday (April 6th).
Officers have carried out raids at properties across the two towns, arresting eight people, in a concerted effort to stamp out drug dealing.
PCSO Gill Bawler told town councillors at a meeting on Monday evening: “Seven drugs warrants have been served in ten days thanks to lots of accurate information from residents in Burnham and Highbridge. We feel we’ve made a mark on drug dealing in the two towns and that this will make the area safer.”
Inspector Sam Williams said: “We are fully committed to working with the community to tackle issues, such as drug dealing, that they specify as community priorities through their local PACT meetings.”
“This operation has been a real success and is an excellent example of the police and the public working together to identify problems and deal with them effectively.”
“I would urge the public to keep on giving us information about drugs and any other crime that is happening in their area. This can be done personally, by telephone, e-mail or via Crimestoppers.”
The comments come after Burnham-On-Sea.com exclusively reported on a drugs raid in Church Street, Highbridge last Monday, pictured above, when a man was arrested.
A further drugs raid took place in Burnham last Tuesday (March 31st) when police made another arrest after executing a drugs warrant in Rosewood Close.
In February, Highbridge residents decided that tackling drug dealing should be the number one priority for police in the town, as reported here.
Sergeant Ian Kennett said: “I fully agree with the community that drug dealing is not acceptable. There is a definite link between drug taking and recent local crimes and my staff will continue to target drug dealers in order to make Highbridge and Burnham-on-Sea safer.
“We will also be working closely with housing providers and other partners, which will mean that drug dealers or people involved in antisocial behaviour towards their neighbours may risk losing their homes.”
