Thousands of pounds of drugs seized in Highbridge raids

-

Thousands of pounds worth of cannabis has been seized by police in several raids in Highbridge over the past week.

In the first, a 37 year old female was warned for possession of cannabis after a warrant was executed by police on the Morland Estate.

This was followed by another seizure of cannabis from an address at Highbridge Quay with a street value of over £5,000.

A 23 year old man was arrested and is now on police bail for further enquiries and analysis of the drugs.

Hundreds of pounds in cash was also recovered and an application for forfeiture of this money will be made when the case goes to court.

Another drugs arrest was made on Monday (September 27th) where a 17 year old male from Highbridge was stopped and searched and was found in possession of cannabis.

He was later charged with two offences and will be appearing at Sedgemoor Youth Court on 15th October.

Highbridge police officer PC Ryan Dinham told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Our community keeps telling us that drug dealing is their most important issue. We will continue to act whenever possible  to target drug abuse and the latest success demonstrates that we take the community’s views seriously.”

“Anyone who has any information about drug dealing can contact the police anonymously via crimestoppers (0800 555111) or by speaking to any member of their neighbourhood beat team.  All information will be in confidence and the identity of sources will not be disclosed.”

Neighbourhood Sergeant Ian Kennett added: “I would like to make it clear that we work closely with housing associations and social landlords and tenants that allow drug dealing or antisocial behaviour on their premises are likely to face eviction.”

“The Highbridge and Landlords Together (HALT) group was set up to help reduce antisocial behaviour and has now been running for two years. The group meets every Tuesday and information is shared between members.”
