Burnham-On-Sea man charged after police raid uncovers heroin

-

A 42-year-old unemployed man from Burnham-On-Sea was charged with two offences of possession of Class A drugs on Monday (March 8th) following a successful police drugs raid.

Neil Edward Cartwright was bailed to appear at Sedgemoor Magistrates Court on 30th March.

It follows a police operation targeting drug dealers as part of an ongoing crackdown on drug dealing in our area.

Cartwright was detained following the seizure of heroin from him at an address in Burnham-On-Sea, where he was searched. Heroin with an estimated street value of £300 was recovered.

The officer in charge of the case, PC Ryan Dinham, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We have listened to what the public wants and have taken positive steps to tackle drug dealing.”

“Drugs can cause misery for families and I would not wish for any more young people to lose their lives as a result of drug misuse.”

“One suspected drug dealer said to me recently ‘Everywhere I go I seem to bump into you’. Drug dealers can expect that sort of attention from the Highbridge Neighbourhood Policing Team.”

Another 36-year-old unemployed man from Highbridge is currently on police bail following a separate Class A drugs seizure in Abingdon Street in Burnham. Heroin with an estimated street value of £600 was found on 23rd February and the man was arrested. He was released on police bail to return on 20th April for the drugs to be analysed.
