Man arrested after cannabis plants are seized by Burnham Police

-

A man has been arrested by Burnham-On-Sea Police this week after cannabis plants were found growing in his garden.

Officers were responding to a separate incident at an address in New Road, East Hunstpill, when they discovered a number of cannabis plants being grown in a rear garden and shed at the property.

Police say the plants would have had a substantial yield when fully mature.

A man was arrested on suspicion of production of cannabis and is helping Police with their enquiries.

PC Bartlett of Burnham Police told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Any person dealing, cultivating or being in possession of cannabis, a class B drug, will be dealt with robustly.”

“Being in possession of cannabis can be subject to a five-year prison term and if caught being in possession with intent to supply or production can lead to a 12-year prison term.”

“Cannabis has strong links to mental health illnesses and can be the ‘gateway drug’ to other drugs.”

Police have asked that residents with information about drugs should contact Burnham-On-Sea Police via 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
