Highbridge and Burnham youth group offers training on ‘how to drug-proof your kids’

-

The Highbridge & Burnham Youth Project is to run two introductory sessions for a new training course called ‘How to Drug Proof Your Kids’.

The training has been designed by Care for the Family, a national charity, and is a practical course focusing on the role parents and carers play in reducing the risks of harmful alcohol and drug use.

Highbridge & Burnham Youth Project (HBYP) exists locally to promote youth and family wellbeing, for the benefit of our community. The group formed as an initiative of Churches Together in Burnham, Highbridge & District, and now runs independently.

HBYP course leader Sarah Taylor told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s easy to see drugs and alcohol abuse as ‘someone else’s problem’, but anyone can be affected by them and they can have a harmful effect on families. We have been contacting local authorities and schools to see how we can be part of the solution. They have been very helpful in supporting our work.”

“We look forward to providing the course in Highbridge, Burnham and the surrounding district, and developing our ideas with agencies involved in similar safeguarding work.”

The taster sessions are open to the public and will be held on Thursday 7th November 1.30-2.30pm at the Gospel Centre, Old Burnham Road, Highbridge then on Thursday 7th November 7pm-8pm at Burnham-On-Sea Baptist Church in College St, Burnham.

The next full course is scheduled to begin on Thursday 30th January 2014, 7-9pm at Churchfield School Highbridge, and will run for six weekly sessions.

the Highbridge & Burnham Youth Project was established by Churches Together in Burnham and Highbridge, initially to fund the employment of two youth workers to serve the schools and youth groups in the area. Recently, the project has received funding towards establishing a programme of parenting courses to benefit whole families.
