Plans for a new drive-thru and hotel in Highbridge besides the proposed Aldi store have been formally shown for the first time in new planning documents this week.
The plans for land to the east Of Bennett Road on Highbridge’s Isleport Business Park clearly show a new hotel and drive-thru are planned next to the proposed Aldi supermarket.
Town councillors have this month approved the plans for the construction of a new access road at the site, shown in grey on the plans above, but no formal application for the ‘drive thru’ itself have yet been submitted.
“It will be very interesting to see the plans for the drive thru when they are submitted,” said Highbridge councillor John Parkes.
McDonald’s has previously been rumoured to be interested in opening in the town and an official spokeswoman in the firm’s UK press office told Burnham-On-Sea.com it is not ruling out the site, adding that there are “no confirmed plans.”
MKcDonald’s told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are always looking for new sites to open new restaurants, invest in the local community and create jobs.”
“Somerset is an area we would like to continue to invest in and we are looking at several potential opportunities, but currently have no confirmed plans.”
Burnham-On-Sea.com reported last year that four Somerset towns are on the McDonald’s target list as the firm hunts for new sites for its ‘drive thru’ restaurants – Yeovil and Taunton, which already have McDonald’s restaurants but are felt suited for more, along with Midsomer Norton and Burnham-On-Sea.
Earlier this week, we reported here that proposals for the new Aldi store at the site have been attracted mixed feedback from residents, businesses and councillors.
