Burnham-On-Sea Police held a thought-provoking display in Brean over the weekend to promote their latest drink driving campaign.
The damaged remains of a car following a serious drink drive accident were on show outside Pontins on both days, and officers handed out leaflets to promote responsible driving.
Visitors were also invited to wear a pair of goggles that altered the person’s vision to simulate being drunk, before they attempted to try a number of walking challenges.
PCSO Tracey Grobbeler told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The issue of drink driving is not new but there are a lot of new young drivers as well as the more experienced.”
“The results of getting behind the wheel can be catastrophic, not only for the occupants of the vehicles, but innocent people that are in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
“Many younger drivers are pressured by their peers but the remarks made after trying on the ‘beer goggles’ ranged from scary, confusing, realisation of the dangers and a real eye opener.”
