Burnham-On-Sea Police have warned motorists not to drink and drive as their summer safety campaign continues.
The Police’s Operation Tonic road safety campaign has seen 108 people arrested so far for drink and drug driving across the force area which includes Somerset.
Chief Inspector Kevan Rowlands, Head of Road Safety said: “The people we arrested have put lives at risk by choosing to drive with alcohol or drugs in their system.”
“Some of the people arrested are clearly dealing with difficult situations in their lives.”
“If you know someone who is coping by using alcohol or drugs and still driving then please reach out to them and get them to stop before they add a drink drive arrest or the trauma of a collision to their problems.”
“The response of the public over the Operation Tonic period shows that the vast majority of people know this is wrong and are willing to help us bring people to justice.”
“Our work doesn’t end with the Tonic campaign and we will continue to act on information received from the public to ensure that the small minority of people who continue to drive over the limit are arrested and put before the courts.”
