Youngsters from Highbridge’s Dreamscheme have been getting creative this week, earning points by making hanging baskets ready for the town’s Britain in Bloom entry this summer.

Thirty young people from the group met on Wednesday (June 1st) and made 50 hanging baskets after deciding they wanted to do something to enhance the town’s chances of doing well in this year’s Bloom competition.

Once finished, the baskets were taken to Church Street in Highbridge where they were given to local homes and businesses for free as a gift and to help brighten up the town.

One of the group’s leaders, PCSO Claire Finch, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The young people and volunteers have worked really hard throughout the project, which has been funded by Isleport Foods in Highbridge and the ‘Grassroots Programme’ from Sedgemoor Community Foundation.”

“We thank all those who have supported the initiative by agreeing to have a basket put up outside their premise and promising to look after them for us. We must also thank Sanders Garden World and Highbridge in Bloom for their support, and Clarke’s Clearance Company of Bridgwater who were extremely helpful, transporting and safely putting up the baskets for us.”

One local resident said: “The young people have done a wonderful job, the baskets look great – thank you!”
