Dozens of members of Highbridge’s Dreamscheme group have had a busy half-term week over the past few days.
43 young people, three of whom were new starters, have been earning points by applying for funding for the organisation and also creating a new code of conduct for both themselves and the adult volunteers.
The group were also visited by Burnham-On-Sea Lions Club, who handed over a £500 cheque following a presentation made by PCSO Claire Chambers and Chairman Jason Adams at one of their meetings earlier in the year.
PCSO Claire Chambers told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We now have over 100 young people involved in the scheme, which is amazing considering it has only been running for a year.”
“In these twelve months, the young people have collectively earned 13,348 points which means they have put over 1,300 hours of community work into Highbridge – a fantastic achievement for both the young people and the organisers of the scheme.”
“We are thrilled to have support from the Burnham Lions and would like to send our thanks for their kind donation – we are looking forward to working with them in the future.”
As a reward for all their hard work, the youngsters were taken to Hollywood Bowl on Thursday (February 18th) where they were treated to a bowling party.
“Hollywood Bowl were brilliant and made the day very enjoyable. Prizes were donated for the two top scorers which was a lovely treat to end the trip,” added Claire.
Highbridge’s Dreamscheme involves young people aged 8-16 taking part in community work in return for points that can be used towards day trips and other activities. If you are interested in joining, see the official website here.
