Burnham-On-Sea’s Mayor and Mayoress have presented a cheque to a town charity following the town’s recent Civic Service.
Cllrs Michael and Maria Clarke presented £502 to In Charley’s Memory, a Burnham charity named after Charley Marks, 18, who took his own life in September 2014. The charity was set up using his name to support young people and those affected by mental health.
A spokesman said: “As a charity we are always looking for ways to raise money and we are very grateful for funds that are donated to us. We were overwhelmed to receive such a generous donation from the Mayor and his wife and are thankful to all those that attended the civic ceremony and donated to In Charley’s Memory.”
“Since we opened our offices in Burnham’s Manor Gardens we have provided free counselling to young adults between 11-25. They do not need a referral from the GP to arrange an appointment, they just need to call, email or contact us via our Facebook page. We have also provided training in mental health first aid using donations like this.”
