Dolphins spotted in Burnham Bay by local fishermen
A pair of dolphins has been spotted swimming in the sea off Burnham by a group of local fishermen.
Adam Picton, pictured below, told Burnham-On-Sea.com that he was onboard a small offshore boat when they noticed the two dolphins – identical to the ones here – at 9.30am on Sunday.
“They were about 2-3 metres in length and had the usual distinctive bottle-nosed characteristics,” he said. “We saw them first by the number one buoy just to the west of Stert Island.”
“It was a fantastic sight as they swam alongside our boat for about ten minutes before heading up the channel in the direction of Steep Holm.”
Adam added: “They were bluey grey in colour and didn’t look in any distress at all – they were quite happy.”
It is believed to be the first time in several years that dolphins have been seen in the waters off Burnham-On-Sea – and it could be proof that the Bristol Channel is getting cleaner. Seals were also recently seen at Stert Island.
Adam is shown pointing at the area of the map where the pair of dolphins were seen.
