Beach walker finds body of dolphin on Brean beach

-

A walker on Brean beach found the body of this dolphin or porpoise washed up on the sands earlier this week.

Burnham-On-Sea.com reader Laurie Caulton discovered the animal’s body near the tide line next to Brean Down.

She said: “I found it about 50 yards from the vehicle access to beach and alerted police, who contacted the Environment Agency to take it away.”

“The mammal was about four feet long with no visible damage to its body. It had some blood coming from its mouth and the end of one fin.”

It’s not the first time that such mammals have been washed ashore in our area. A large porpoise was washed up on Burnham beach in July last year and in July 2007 another porpoise was washed up in the town.
