Burnham-On-Sea’s summer-time beach ban on dogs has come into operation this month.
Sedgemoor District Council bans dogs from the town’s three main beaches over the tourist season.
“Visitors and residents are reminded that the seasonal dog ban came into force on May 1st on all beaches at Burnham-On-Sea between Maddock’s Slade and the Yacht Club,” council spokeswoman Claire Faun said this week.
“During the dog ban period, which runs from May 1st to September 30th, it is an offence to take your dog onto the beach.”
“Dog walkers can be issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice of £75 or face prosecution for doing so.”
“Sedgemoor’s dog wardens undertake patrols at the beaches and will issue fixed penalty notices to those caught with dogs on the banned beaches.”
“In the last few months, the dog wardens have issued 15 Fixed Penalty Notices for dogs on the beach on beach 1, between the jetty and Pavilion, where dogs are banned all year round.”
Dogs can still be walked on the beach north of Maddock’s Slade towards the beach lighthouse all year-round.
