Beach wardens have issued a safety warning to dog owners after a pet plunged to its death from Brean Down on Saturday morning (May 30th).
Brean beach warden Pete Williams was called to the foot of the Down at 11am after a Staffordshire Bull Terrier fell down the cliffs close to Brean Cove.
Mr Williams told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The two year-old dog was owned by a Bridgwater couple and lost its footing while chasing a goat. The owners were understandably shocked.”
“We’d advise dog owners to keep their pets well away from cliff edges and to keep them on a lead if possible.”
There have been several dog-related incidents on Brean Down in recent years. A dog was killed in Ferbuary this year, and a greyhound was killed in a fall in March 2006. A pet was successfully rescued in August 2005, and a golden retriever was also rescued in November 2007. (See links below)
